Beaver Takes Season Series Against New Kensington
Lady Lions improve to 10-5 in PSUAC
New Kensington, PA- The Penn State Beaver Womens Volleyball Team (11-11, 10-5 PSUAC) faced PSUAC rival Penn State New Kensington in the two teams final meeting for the season. With a win tonight 3-0 (25-9, 25-22, 25-16) Beaver took the season series against New Kensington.
In the first set, Beaver came out aggressive and ready beating the Lady Lions of New Kensington 25-9. Great play came from Jenn Fannin (Harbor Creek/Erie, PA), Kayona Ward (Beaver Falls/Beaver Falls, PA), Rachel Grubbs (Freeport/Sarver, PA), and Natalie Gamble (Sto-Rox/McKees Rocks, PA) leading the way, Beaver had an early advantage and they would carry that throughout the game.
New Kensington came out tough in the second set before falling 25-22. Great digs by Ella Epps (Penn Hills/Pittsburgh, PA), Gamble, and Gina Richman (Union/Edinburg, PA) kept the Lady Lions with the momentum heading into what was the third and final set.
Beaver took the third set 25-16. This win improves the Lady Lions PSUAC record to 10-5 for the season.
On the night, Fannin led the game with 7 kills, Ward, Grubbs, and Gamble added 6. Following them were Richman(1), Amanda Palombo (Quigley/Aliquippa, PA)(3) and Epps(2). Grubbs led with 16 assists followed by Richman, Ward, and Palombo with 1 a piece. Gamble led the team with 12 digs, Epps(8), Richman(6), Grubbs(5), Candace Emmanuel (Greensburg Central Catholic/Murraysville, PA)(1), and Palombo(3). Grubbs also contributed 5 aces for the evening.
The Lady Lions will play their final home game of the season on Saturday October 15, 2011 at 11 a.m. against Penn State Fayette (Uniontown, PA). A free PSU Beaver Athletic T-shirt will be given away to fans in attendance.
