Walk-Off Win Beaver Seals 5–4 Thriller
A late-game rally, a sudden tie, and one final swing defined Penn State Beaver’s dramatic walk-off victory.
Penn State Beaver edged out a 5–4 win at Beaver Field on April 22, 2026, improving to 12–19 overall and 5–7 in conference play. The game unfolded in waves—sparked early by timely extra-base hits, settling into a tense midgame stalemate, and erupting in the seventh inning when a late rally tied it before Beaver delivered the walk-off run. Despite committing three errors and tallying just five hits, Beaver's pitching staff contained the damage when it mattered most and shut the door in the final frame.
After falling behind in the top of the first, Beaver answered immediately. Haydan Baucan's RBI double evened the score, and Reza Benson followed with a sacrifice fly to give Beaver a 2–1 edge. The momentum held through two quiet innings before Beaver capitalized again in the third, turning patience and defensive miscues into two more runs a score on an error and an RBI walk by Cheyenne Duhl pushed the lead to 4–1.
From the fourth through the sixth innings, Beaver's pitching and defense were tested but resilient, stranding runners and preserving the lead. That tension broke in the top of the seventh, when the visitors surged for three runs to tie the game at 4–4, highlighted by a solo home run and additional run-producing plays. With the pressure mounting, Beaver wasted no time responding in the bottom half. Reza Benson stepped up once more, delivering a decisive RBI single to right field that brought home the winning run and sealed the 5–4 victory.
Benson led the offense with three RBIs, including the game-winner, while Baucan finished 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Jaiden Patterson crossed the plate twice and reached base with two walks, contributing to Beaver's disciplined approach at the plate—drawing four walks and striking out only once. In the circle, Mackenzie Boyd pitched 6.1 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits while striking out five and walking five. Kierstyn Mays recorded the final two outs to lock down the win.
Now sitting at 12–19 (5–7), Beaver continues to show its ability to grind out close games, surviving late pressure and delivering in the clutch when it counts most. The team will take the field on Saturday, April 20th at 3pm and 5pm at home against Franciscan. For all things Penn State Beaver Softball check out beaverathletics.com!
