Beaver Walks It Off to Cap Comeback Win
Penn State Beaver rallied from an early deficit and delivered in the clutch, walking off Penn State Du Bois 10–8 Tuesday in Monaca.
Penn State Beaver (11-1, 4-3) outlasted Penn State Du Bois 10-8 on April 14 in Monaca, finishing the comeback with a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh. The visitors struck first with a four-run opening inning, highlighted by an RBI double and a two-run homer, then added single runs in the third and fifth to build a 6-4 cushion. Beaver answered with steady pressure across the middle innings, using timely extra-base hits and a string of run-producing singles to erase the deficit and set up a dramatic final frame.
Du Bois jumped ahead immediately in the 1st, scoring four times to seize control early, while Beaver came up empty in the bottom half. The 2nd inning passed scoreless, but the 3rd brought more action—Du Bois tacked on a run, and Beaver responded with two RBI singles to get on the board and cut into the lead. In the 4th, Beaver kept chipping away with a two-run homer to pull within one, and in the 5th both teams traded blows: Du Bois homered, but Beaver answered with run-scoring contact to move in front. Beaver extended the margin in the 6th with a two-run double, then Du Bois rallied in the 7th with two runs to tie the game at 8-8 before Beaver walked it off in the bottom half on a two-run double.
Beaver improved to 11-1 overall and 4-3 in conference with an 18-hit performance and just one strikeout at the plate. Kierstyn Mays led the way with four hits and drove in two, including the decisive two-run double in the seventh; she also went the distance in the circle. Reese Riordan delivered three hits and three RBIs, Cheyenne Duhl added three hits and an RBI, and Mackenzie Boyd chipped in three hits and an RBI. Jaiden Patterson supplied a key two-run homer as part of Beaver's multi-inning comeback.
Beaver's win was built on relentless contact and timely extra-base hitting, overcoming an early four-run hole and answering every Du Bois push with offense of its own. Even after Du Bois tied it in the top of the seventh, Beaver stayed composed and produced the final swing to end it. The result reinforced Beaver's ability to win high-scoring games with depth throughout the lineup and late-inning execution. The offensive effort was a complete team showing, highlighted by consistent contact and timely hitting throughout the lineup. Beaver's ability to respond to every Du Bois push underscored its depth and confidence in high-pressure moments. With another comeback win in the books, Beaver continues to build momentum and prove it can handle adversity—an encouraging sign as the team looks ahead to its next matchup.
