Penn State Beaver softball dropped a 10-2 decision at Beaver Field on April 8, 2026, falling to 5-12 overall and 0-2 in conference play. The Lions were held scoreless through four innings before getting on the board in the fifth, but a four-run sixth inning by the visitors put the game out of reach. Penn State Beaver finished with six hits and two errors, while the opposition capitalized with timely extra-base hits and three home runs.
Offensively for Penn State Beaver, shortstop Jaiden Patterson provided the highlight with a two-run home run in the fifth inning, driving in both RBIs in the game and accounting for both runs scored (Haley Cook also scored after reaching base). Kierstyn Mays, Reza Benson, Cheyenne Duhl, Haley Cook, and Haydan Baucan each recorded a hit, with Benson and Duhl adding doubles. In the circle, Mackenzie Boyd took the loss after three innings (4 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K), and Reza Benson worked the final three innings (5 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 2 K). As a staff, Penn State Beaver allowed nine hits and three home runs.
Penn State Beaver will look to build on the fifth-inning momentum when Patterson's homer briefly cut the deficit to 6-2 while tightening up defensively and limiting big innings. With six hits and multiple extra-base knocks, the Lions showed they can generate opportunities; converting those chances earlier and pairing them with cleaner defense will be key as they continue conference play.
Penn State Beaver hosted a nonconference softball game on April 8, 2026 at the Beaver Field House, falling 9–2. The Lions kept it close early and answered in the third inning, but the game swung away in the middle frames and a late three-run seventh put it out of reach. Penn State Beaver was charged with four defensive errors, which helped extend innings and add to the final margin.
At the plate, Penn State Beaver finished with five hits and three walks while striking out 14 times. Jaiden Patterson went 2-for-4 with a double and scored a run, and Haydan Baucan added a hit and a walk while also scoring. Kierstyn Mays drove in a run with an RBI double in the third, and Reza Benson added an RBI on a groundout; Haley Cook chipped in a single and a walk. In the circle, Mays worked the full seven innings, allowing 11 hits and nine runs (eight earned) with four walks and four strikeouts.
With the loss, Penn State Beaver moved to 5–13 overall and 0–2 in conference play. The Lions' two-run third inning briefly cut the deficit to one, but they were held scoreless the rest of the way as the opposition's pitching combined for 14 strikeouts and no runs allowed after the third. Penn State Beaver will look to tighten up defensively and generate more consistent offense as it continues its schedule.
They look to overcome this in the coming weeks as conference starts to heat up. The team will take the field again on Friday, April 10th at 6pm and 8pm when they take on Penn State Schuylkill away. For all things Penn State Beaver Softball check out beaverathletics.com!
