Dubois, PA -- Beaver Softball sees their season come to a close with a loss to Penn State Brandywine in the USCAA Small College World Series.
A loss on Monday afternoon landed Beaver in the loser's bracket of the World Series where they matched up with Penn State Brandywine, a rematch of their opening game of the PSUAC Tournament. Brandywine was quick to get on the board in the top of the 1st, taking a 2-0 lead. Beaver looked to answer as they got a lead off single from Lacey Weible, but a double play ball cleared the bases. The Lady Lions looked they were going to have a little two out magic as Jessica Hughes doubled and was advanced to third on a Michelle Cisco single. Unfortunately, with runners on the corners, Beaver couldn't capitalize.
Beaver's defense continued to struggle with the bats of Brandywine, comitting two errors in the third, resulting in a 5-run inning. Trailing 7-0, the Lady Lions kept battling and managed a run in the fourth from Cisco who doubled in her at bat and was able to score on an error to put Beaver on the board.
Brandywine extended their lead to 9-1 in the top of the 6th and with their backs against the ropes, Beaver battled again to stay in the game. The highlight of the at bat was a 1-out Cisco homer to right to score two. Her fifth homer of the season rattled the pitching for Brandywine allowing several players to walk, including a walked in run to give Beaver three runs in the inning.
In the 7th, Beaver gave up another two runs and could not generate any offense in their final at bat, falling by a final score of 12-4, ending their 2019 season.
Cisco led the team in the game offensively, going 3 for 3 with 2 RBI's on her home run. She was followed by Hughes who went 2 for 4.
From the circle, Jackson faced 32 batters in her 5 innings of work, and in relief Hughes faced the final 7 batters.
Beaver ends the season with an overall record of 29-15 after struggling in the post-season. Despite graduating 6 seniors this year, Kirschner has a solid core returning in the fall and a big freshman class who he thinks will make an immediate impact.
